Tellinger and Fresk sing the blues in Waterval Boven

While the astronauts flew to the moon, James the dog howled his unsolicited backing vocals to Tellinger and Fresk singing the blues at Stone Circle in Waterval Boven.

All of this is true! And if you know Boven, you will agree that the statement sounds like a stretch of the imagination. For one, we are quite isolated, and the moon is as far as any human might travel, but having Grammy-nominated artists here felt like those two worlds collided and in our small town, this was one night I wasn’t going to miss.

It was Niel Fishwick who was James’ inspiration. A man of great power sitting in the recesses of the limited stage space on a square drum I now know is a cajon drum. He was tapping it with the flat palm of his right hand while his feet worked a small bass drum pedal and a single cymbal while his hands shook different shakers periodically. All of that plus he would play the mouth organ, harmonica, harp? Without breaking a sweat! His body seemed to be the central tapestry of rhythm in the whole performance but it was the harmonica that moved James to be taken away with the music!

He brought the house down when he did, though, because the audience (a mix of guests from out of town and their children and some locals evenly mixed) laughed out loud and it was a spark of excitement that made a connection between the stage and them tangible. It spawned an intimate closeness you can’t expect. Looking back at the audience from my seat, my vision was filled with smiling faces and wide eyed wonder.

Tellinger’s voice was a deep velvety warmth over the keys of Fresk’s agile piano parts with the electric guitar of Mike Slavin giving their charm the crisp sting of the blues he’s mastered. This was all held up with a foundation of the deep big bass of Viwe Mkizwana. Together they were the full force of art in motion, rhythm and syncopation that I’m only used to on a screen, with performers a million miles away!

It was a uniquely special evening that made our small town seem like a hidden gem. In the red and blue stage lights, under the big full moon with the Artimes II space capsule flying towards it, surrounded by beautiful people, remote from any of the problems of the world, I was there!
But with Tellinger and Fresk in town, I suspect there will be more to come!

Waterval Boven has a tourism information centre opening later this year. Check in at the Emgwenya Heritage and Tourism Information Centre to stay in touch with what’s happening in Waterval Boven, Emgwenya!

    Yoga Pants April 2026 collection

Brown Earth Farm is a start up on the high edge of the escarpment in Mpumalanga – the gateway to the low lands marked by a famous ZASM tunnel, engineered to handle the steep decline of the highveld edge, to the animal kingdom. From railway journeys moving gold to the east coast of the past to adventure tourism, this is where you move, hike and ride as a way of life!

The April collection of stock has come in and they are all so beautiful – I can almost meet you all through the vivid imagination they trigger and the characters I can visualise wearing these leggings.

The more I am finding out about the origins of these super comfy yoga pants the more intrigued I am – and they have many more interesting items for those who can do anything and go anywhere! I intend looking into that!

The colours are insanely exciting – they make a bunch of the clothes you love but couldn’t wear before, pop out of your wardrobe because there’s a colour in the mix that makes it work! That happens to me all the time – I have a pair for every occasion from farm work to the office and they are best for actual yoga!

You might have come to this post through Tegwaan.co.za or maybe you were visiting in Waterval Boven, so when you come back, check in to see what the latest stock looks like!

In the midst of this landscape, rich with the heritage of ancient and recent history, we too are on a journey towards self-reliance.

Our Autumn stock of leggings is in and we want to share it with you before we move it to a mainstream online outlet, so get your favourite colours before they are gone, and that is not a marketing tactic to get you to react. It is a genuine feeling I get when I look through all the new stock when it comes in – I like them all, and I confess I even feel a pinch loss each time one gets sold. My inner megalomaniac needs to be kept in check!

Recommended for their value for money, they are durable and fit all kinds of body shapes without leaving stretched out knees and bum slack.

Plus the colours are insanely exciting – they make a bunch of the clothes you love but couldn’t wear before, pop out of your wardrobe because there’s a colour in the mix that makes it work! That happens to me all the time – I have a pair for every occasion from farm work to the office and they are best for actual yoga!

They are also the kind of material that does NOT hold your body heat in like sweat pants. They breath and offer good sun protection on your legs when hiking but don’t cause you to have loads of fabric around your ankles on your path. You can rock climb in these and stretch to your full potential and be photogenic in doing it !(for those action shots to share!) Not to mention what great winter running gear they are for the sunrise runners out there!

This is not an online store, it’s best to touch and feel them to really know their worth, but if you would like me to send them to you through one of the mainstream couriers in South Africa, I will get in touch through the contact page and check what patterns and styles I have in stock. The gallery will give you an idea of what patterns are available. You might just roll the dice and tell me you three favourite colours to wear and i will make sure you get something you will like.

Most likely you came to this pose through Tegwaan.co.za or maybe you were visiting in Waterval Boven, so when you come back, check in to see what the latest stock looks like!
